A LITTLE DOSE OF HISTORY:
Memorial Day, observed on the last Monday of May, is a holiday honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military.
Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971.
On May 5, 1868, General John A. Logan, leader of an organization for Northern Civil War veterans, called for a nationwide day of remembrance later that month. “The 30th of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village and hamlet churchyard in the land,” he proclaimed.
The date of Decoration Day, as he called it, was chosen because it wasn’t the anniversary of any particular battle.

They are the 2019 iKAN cohort for the Kentucky Speech-Language-Hearing Association and they will spend the next year advocating on behalf of KSHA, their patients, and the power of their work. It was an honor to meet with them and assist them in unleashing their potential as leaders and advocates. #KSHA #GPL
We celebrate our team here at GPL who are alumni of the FFA. In honor of the California FFA alumni challenge here is a THEN and NOW picture of Development Strategist Beau Williamson. When asked about the impact that the FFA has had on his life, here’s what he had to say... “The FFA introduced me to some of the best people I know, many of whom play a big role in my life today. It fueled my desire to develop into my greater potential!” Don’t forget to follow our GPL social media pages this week! For every follow we get, we will donate $1 to the FFA. Let’s raise some money!!! #WeAreCAFFA #Give #FFAWeek #FFAJustOne
